Dry orange manufacturers

When sourcing dry oranges, you must prioritize moisture content (typically 10-15%) to ensure shelf stability and prevent mold. Look for vibrant color retention (avoiding brown or dull slices) which indicates low-temperature dehydration. The thickness of the slices should be uniform (usually 3mm to 5mm) for consistent application in tea, baking, or garnishing. Ensure the product is free from added sugars, artificial colors, or sulfur dioxide unless specifically requested for preservation.

As a food product, dry oranges must adhere to strict safety standards. Ensure the supplier holds HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management) certifications. For the US market, FDA registration is mandatory, while the EU market requires compliance with EFSA regulations regarding pesticide MRLs (Maximum Residue Levels). If targeting the health-conscious segment, verify Phytosanitary Certificates and Organic certifications (USDA Organic or EU Organic).

The drying method significantly impacts the final quality. Cold-bridge or Low-Temperature Air Drying is preferred over high-heat methods as it preserves the essential oils, vitamin C content, and natural aroma. For premium applications, Freeze-Drying (Lyophilization) offers the best structural integrity and rehydration properties, though at a higher cost. Ask suppliers for their dehydration curve data to verify their process control.

Analyze the yield ratio; typically, it takes 6-8kg of fresh oranges to produce 1kg of dried slices. Compare prices based on grading (Whole Slices vs. Broken Pieces/Tea Cut). To optimize costs, consider bulk packaging (5kg-10kg vacuum bags) rather than retail-ready pouches, which can reduce unit costs by 15-20%. Always factor in the seasonal price fluctuations of fresh citrus, which usually peak in the summer months.

The biggest risks are microbiological contamination (Salmonella/Listeria) and mycotoxins. Additionally, customs rejection due to improper labeling or lack of a Phytosanitary Certificate can lead to total loss. To mitigate this, use third-party inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to conduct pre-shipment testing on moisture levels and pesticide residues.

Start by requesting a small sample (500g-1kg) to verify the aroma and appearance. Negotiate a tiered pricing structure where the price drops as your annual volume increases. For payment, prioritize Secured Trading services or Letters of Credit (L/C) for large first-time orders to ensure the goods meet the agreed-upon specifications before funds are fully released.

Dry oranges are sensitive to humidity and light. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof, food-grade aluminum foil bags with oxygen absorbers. For long-distance sea freight, specify cool and dry container positioning (away from the engine room). Upon arrival, store in a temperature-controlled environment (below 20°C) with humidity under 60% to prevent oxidation and darkening.

Check the HS Code (typically 0805.10 or 0813.40) against your country's tariff schedule to identify anti-dumping duties or specific quotas. Ensure all documentation, including the Certificate of Origin, clearly states the source to benefit from any Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that might reduce import taxes.
