Horseshoe nail manufacturers

Horseshoe nails must be manufactured from low-carbon steel or soft iron. This ensures the nail is ductile enough to be clinched (bent over) without snapping, yet stiff enough to be driven through the hoof wall. For high-performance or therapeutic needs, look for copper-coated nails, which offer antimicrobial properties to reduce the risk of hoof infections.

Selection depends on the shoe type and horse size. City Head (CH) nails are standard for light work, while Regular Head (RH) nails provide more surface area for heavy-duty shoes. Sizes typically range from 00 to 12; ensure the nail head fits flush within the shoe crease to prevent premature wear or loosening. For racing, slim-shank nails are preferred to minimize hoof wall displacement.

Precision is vital. The point of the nail must be perfectly tapered to ensure it exits the hoof wall at the intended height. Verify that the supplier adheres to ISO 9001 quality management systems. A critical check is the uniformity of the shank thickness; variations greater than 0.05mm can cause the nail to 'bind' or drive incorrectly, potentially injuring the horse's sensitive laminae.

Yes, for buyers in tropical or coastal regions, galvanized or polished finishes are essential to prevent oxidation. However, the most premium option is stainless steel or electrolytic copper plating, which maintains structural integrity even in prolonged exposure to moisture and acidic manure.

Prioritize suppliers with the 'Audited Supplier' badge. Review their Audit Reports to check their production capacity and machinery. Request a Material Test Report (MTR) to confirm the carbon content of the steel, ensuring it meets the softness requirements for safe clinching.

The primary risk is moisture damage (rust) during sea freight. Ensure the supplier uses VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) paper or vacuum-sealed plastic packaging inside the cartons. Because nails are heavy and dense, confirm that the outer cartons are reinforced and palletized to prevent bursting during transit.

Horseshoe nails are high-volume commodities. Aim for tiered pricing where the unit cost drops significantly at the 1,000-box (250kg+) threshold. Negotiate for FOB (Free On Board) terms if you have a preferred freight forwarder, as this allows better control over the heavy-weight shipping surcharges.

Always use Secured Trading Services provided by the platform to protect your payment until the goods are shipped. For large orders, insist on a pre-shipment inspection by a third party like SGS or Intertek to verify the nail count, head dimensions, and point sharpness before the final balance is paid.
