Itaconic acid manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize purity levels, typically requiring ≥99.8% for high-end polymer synthesis. Key chemical indicators include Melting Point (165-168°C), Loss on Drying (≤0.2%), and Residue on Ignition (≤0.01%). For applications in the pharmaceutical or food-contact sectors, monitoring Heavy Metals (Pb ≤10ppm) and Iron content (Fe ≤5ppm) is critical to ensure chemical stability and safety.

Itaconic acid is a versatile building block used in SBR Latex for paper coating and carpets, Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP), and unsaturated polyester resins. It is increasingly sought after as a bio-based platform chemical to replace petroleum-derived maleic anhydride. It is also essential in producing detergent builders and dispersants due to its excellent chelating properties.

Suppliers must provide a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or Safety Data Sheet (SDS) compliant with GHS standards. For entry into the EU, REACH registration is mandatory. US-bound shipments must comply with TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act). Additionally, look for manufacturers with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) to ensure sustainable and consistent production.

Most commercial Itaconic Acid is produced via fermentation of carbohydrates (like corn starch) using Aspergillus terreus. The fermentation efficiency and refining technology (crystallization cycles) directly impact the final price. Buyers should evaluate the biomass source and the supplier's waste treatment capabilities, as environmental regulations on fermentation plants can affect supply stability and lead times.

The main risks include quality inconsistency between batches and logistical hazards. To mitigate these, always request a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Ensure the packaging is moisture-proof (typically 25kg woven bags with PE liners) to prevent caking during long-term sea freight.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers; ordering in Full Container Loads (FCL) can reduce unit costs by 10-15% compared to LCL. Negotiate payment terms such as Letter of Credit (L/C) or Trade Assurance to protect your funds. For long-term partnerships, ask for price formulas linked to raw material (corn/glucose) market indices to manage price volatility.

Itaconic Acid is generally classified as non-hazardous for transport, but it should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. Avoid direct sunlight and contact with strong oxidizing agents. When shipping to countries with high humidity, ensure the use of desiccants inside the container to maintain the product's free-flowing crystalline form.

Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site verification by third-party institutions like SGS or Intertek. Check their Export Experience—suppliers who frequently ship to your target region are more likely to understand local customs requirements and HS Code classification (typically 29171900).
