Silk bedding set manufacturers

The primary quality indicator is Momme weight (mm), which measures the density of the silk. For bedding, a range of 19mm to 25mm is standard; anything below 19mm is too fragile for frequent use. Additionally, ensure the silk is Grade 6A, representing the highest quality long-fiber mulberry silk with minimal impurities. You should also verify the weave type, typically charmeuse, which provides the signature high-luster front and dull back.

To ensure consumer safety and market access, products must have the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, which guarantees the silk is free from harmful chemicals. For the US market, compliance with 16 CFR Part 1610 (Standard for the Flammability of Clothing Textiles) is necessary, even for bedding. For European markets, adherence to REACH regulations regarding dye toxicity is mandatory.

Silk is prized for its hypoallergenic properties and temperature regulation. Buyers should confirm the fabric's breathability and moisture-wicking capabilities. For luxury hospitality clients, check for piping reinforcement on seams and the use of hidden high-quality YKK zippers or deep envelope closures to ensure durability during industrial laundering.

Request a Burn Test report or a third-party fiber composition analysis from labs like SGS or Intertek. Pure silk will smell like burning hair and turn to black, crushable ash, whereas synthetic polyester blends will melt, smell like burning plastic, and form a hard black bead. Always ask for material traceability documentation from the cocoon source.

The most significant risk is material substitution, where suppliers blend silk with rayon or polyester to lower costs. Another risk is color bleeding due to poor dyeing processes. To mitigate this, use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services and insist on a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) to verify Momme weight and colorfastness before the final balance is paid.

Silk is a commodity-linked product, so prices fluctuate with raw silk market rates. Negotiate based on volume-tiered pricing; for example, a 500-set order should yield a 15-20% discount compared to a 50-set order. If you require custom colors (Pantone matching), expect a higher MOQ (typically 300-500 meters of fabric) per color.

Silk is sensitive to moisture and odors. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof PE inner bags and double-walled corrugated export cartons. For high-value silk shipments, Air Freight is recommended to reduce the time spent in humid sea containers, which can lead to mildew. Ensure the Incoterms (e.g., FOB or CIF) are clearly defined in the contract to establish insurance liability.

Always verify the supplier's Business License and Export Qualification on the Made-in-China.com platform. Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site verification by third-party agencies like TÜV Rheinland. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts; always use official corporate bank accounts or the platform's secure payment gateway.
