Superphosphate manufacturers

When evaluating Superphosphate (SSP), the most critical factor is the Available Phosphorus (P2O5) content, which typically ranges from 16% to 22%. You must distinguish between Single Superphosphate (SSP) and Triple Superphosphate (TSP), as the latter contains a much higher concentration (approx. 46%). Additionally, check the Free Acid content (should be <5%) to prevent bag rot and caking, and ensure the Moisture content is below 4-5% to maintain structural integrity during long-term storage.

Suppliers should provide a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch. Ensure the product meets ISO 9001 quality management standards and check for compliance with regional agricultural regulations, such as the EU Fertilising Products Regulation or specific USDA/EPA standards if importing to North America. It is highly recommended to use third-party inspection services like SGS or Intertek to verify the granule size (typically 1-4mm) and chemical composition before the balance payment is made.

Superphosphate is primarily used as a starter fertilizer because it provides readily available phosphorus, sulfur (approx. 11-12%), and calcium. It is ideal for legumes, cruciferous vegetables, and pastures that have high sulfur requirements. Its high solubility makes it effective in neutral to alkaline soils to promote root development and accelerate plant maturity. For B2B buyers, understanding the solubility rate in water is essential for clients using irrigation or fertigation systems.

The price of Superphosphate is heavily influenced by the cost of phosphate rock and sulfuric acid. To optimize costs, buyers should consider bulk purchasing (FCL - Full Container Load) to reduce the per-ton shipping rate. Be aware that seasonal demand in major agricultural hubs (like Brazil, India, or the US) can cause price spikes. Sourcing from integrated manufacturers on Made-in-China.com who produce their own sulfuric acid can often result in a 10-15% cost advantage.

The primary risks include moisture damage during sea transit and weight discrepancies. Fertilizers are hygroscopic; if the packaging is not UV-stabilized PE/PP woven bags with an inner liner, the product may cake or degrade. Always include a clause in your contract specifying allowable moisture limits upon arrival and use Trade Assurance on platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your capital against quality non-conformity.

Negotiate based on Incoterms 2020; while FOB (Free On Board) is common, CFR (Cost and Freight) may be more economical if the supplier has high-volume contracts with shipping lines. Ensure the supplier is familiar with MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) requirements, as Superphosphate is generally classified as non-hazardous but still requires proper documentation for customs clearance. Ask for Volume-Based Rebates if your annual procurement exceeds 500 metric tons.

Ensure the cargo is stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse prior to loading. During shipping, the vessel's hold must be clean and dry to avoid contamination. For specific countries, check for Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) mandates. For example, some African and Middle Eastern markets require a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) to prove the fertilizer does not contain heavy metal contaminants like Cadmium (Cd) above permissible levels.
