Winter jackets manufacturers

When sourcing winter jackets, you must prioritize insulation type and fill power. For down jackets, a fill power of 600-800 is standard for premium retail, while synthetic insulation (like Primaloft) is better for damp environments. Additionally, check the shell fabric's GSM (Grams per Square Meter) to ensure durability and verify that the waterproof rating is at least 5,000mm to 10,000mm for outdoor or performance use. Don't overlook seam sealing technology (fully taped vs. critically taped) which prevents water leakage through stitching.

To ensure market entry and consumer safety, verify that suppliers comply with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 for chemical safety and RDS (Responsible Down Standard) if purchasing down-filled products to ensure ethical sourcing. For the North American market, ensure compliance with FTC labeling requirements (fiber content and care instructions), and for the EU, ensure adherence to REACH regulations regarding hazardous substances in dyes and water-repellent coatings.

Request abrasion resistance test results (Martindale test) for the outer shell to ensure it withstands friction. Evaluate the quality of hardware, specifically looking for YKK or SBS zippers, which are industry benchmarks for longevity. Furthermore, check the colorfastness to light and washing (Grade 4 or higher) to prevent fading, and ensure reinforced stitching at high-stress points like armpits and pocket corners.

Design requirements vary significantly by end-use: Extreme Cold/Arctic use requires long silhouettes, heavy insulation, and storm flaps; Urban/Commuter styles prioritize aesthetics, lightweight materials, and internal tech pockets; while Active/Ski wear necessitates high breathability ratings (5,000g/m²/24h+), powder skirts, and underarm ventilation zippers.

The ideal sourcing window for winter jackets is February to April. This allows for a 60-90 day production lead time and 30-45 days for sea freight, ensuring inventory arrives by September. Ordering during the 'off-season' also gives you better leverage to negotiate lower unit prices as factories seek to fill their production lines before the peak season rush.

Always utilize Third-Party Inspections (DPI or FRI) before final payment. Specifically, instruct inspectors to perform a 'Down Leakage Test' and a 'Water Repellency Spray Test'. To secure your transaction, use Trade Resources on Made-in-China.com to verify the supplier's 'Audit Reports' and 'Full Verified' status, which confirms their manufacturing capabilities and legal existence.

Focus on Tiered Pricing based on MOQ; for example, a 500-unit order may be 15% cheaper than a 100-unit order. Negotiate for 'Free Spare Parts' (extra buttons, zippers, and fabric patches) to be included in the shipment. If you are a long-term buyer, negotiate for flexible payment terms such as a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to improve your cash flow.

Due to the high volume and bulkiness of winter jackets, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the most economical method. To reduce costs, request vacuum packaging from the supplier, which can reduce the cargo volume by up to 30-50%, significantly lowering your shipping costs per unit. For urgent restocks, consider Sea-Air combined transport to balance cost and speed.
